The Royal Borough of Greenwich (RBG) is in South-East London, with the council’s headquarters in Woolwich. It’s famous as the location of the Greenwich Meridian and the Greenwich Observatory, and for its many royal connections. It was also one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Olympics. The council serves a population of around 280,000 people.
RBG has worked with the London Apprenticeship Company (LAC) for six years. LAC acts as RBGs outsourced apprenticeship managing agent and supplies a broad range of services specifically tailored to the needs of large public sector organisations. These include:
- Candidate recruitment in partnership with local welfare to work providers including Greenwich Local Labour and Business (GLLAB)
- Apprenticeship job vacancy marketing
- Skills screening, shortlisting and interview scheduling
- Outsourced employment
- Management of apprenticeship training
As part of their Apprenticeship Training Agency services, LAC also procures and manages the apprenticeship training. Whilst LAC has worked with more than 50 different apprenticeship providers, LCoAT currently trains 85% of all apprentices employed in the scheme.
We always start by asking a client a simple question:
“What is it that you want your staff to be able to do at the end of the apprenticeship that they can’t do now?”
Once we had a clear impression of RBG’s (and LAC’s) key objectives we were able to structure and deliver an appropriate apprenticeship scheme.
The London College of Apprenticeship Training deliver several apprenticeship programmes specifically for RBG. As with all of our apprenticeships, the course content is specifically written to meet the employer’s objectives but it is strongly based on the following core LCoAT apprenticeship programmes:
